Karen "Keko" Ekonomou
Karen Ekonomou, also known as Keko, is a Vero Beach native and is an accomplished potter as well as an acrylics painter exhibiting in Vero Beach and Winter Park. For a number of years she was the Director of the North County Recreation Department. She also taught classes in clay, painting and gymnastics. Although Karen is completely self trained she has owned and operated an art business that sold hand painted clothing and accessories to 36 retail stores on the east coast from Vermont to St. Croix. She has more recently owned an Art Cake business. Karen is quick to point out the similarities between decorating cakes and working with clay. Her pottery is often flamboyantly colorful, marine themed, and with the occasional Greek "evil eye" motif. Karen's work is inspired by her extensive travels of Mexico and the Bahamas, her Greek husband's heritage, and by her love of animals and nature.
